One of the most dedicated and versatile athletics coaches in UD history, "Coach
Whiz" has lent his talents to the Blue Hen athletics program for nearly
a half-century. A native of Toledo, OH, he is a 1950 graduate of the University
of Michigan where he was a standout football and basketball player, helping
the Wolverines win the 1948 Rose Bowl and playing in the 1948 NCAA men's
basketball tournament. Coach Whiz served as Delaware's offensive line
coach in football from 1952-72, head men's basketball coach from 1954-66,
and men's golf head coach from 1955-63 while also serving as a physical
education professor. During his tenure as assistant football coach under
Dave Nelson and Tubby Raymond, Blue Hen teams won three Small College
National titles and seven Lambert Cup trophies. His 12-year head coaching
tenure is the longest in UD men's basketball history and his 111 coaching
wins still rank No. 2 all-time at Delaware. Retired, Wisniewski remains
an active fan of Blue Hen athletics and has been active in taking U.S.
college basketball all-star teams overseas for tournaments.
